KALYAN: A 27-year-old man – running an event management company – has been arrested for allegedly harassing a 29-year-old woman by hiding her identity for refusing to act in a publicity video.
Gurdeepsingh Khalsa, 27, a resident of Ulhasnagar, runs the company that organizes fashion shows with his father.
Mahatma Phule Police in Kalyan, Thane District, Maharashtra, who solved the case, said that on December 27, they received a complaint from the woman residing in Kalyan alleging that for a month (since November 12), strangers sent her obscene messages and harassed her. by making video calls by masking faces using virtual international numbers.
Police said that after receiving a complaint, they sought help from the Thane Cyber ​​cell and tracked down the mobile phone numbers of two suspects. When grilled, Khalsa confessed to the crime on Thursday.
Ashok Honmane, Senior Police Inspector of Mahatma Phule Police Station, said: “The accused, who runs the event management company and organizes fashion shows, had five years ago proposed to the victim a role in a publicity video, but the girl had refused to act following which the defendant took “revenge”.
The police arrested Khalsa under different sections of the IPC and related sections of the Information Technology Act. On Thursday, he was brought before the Kalyan district court, which sent him back to three days in police custody.
